Frequently asked questions
What is an LLC?
A Limited Liability Company is a US business structure that separates your personal assets from the business. If the company is sued or owes money, your home and personal savings are generally protected. It is the most common structure for small businesses, freelancers, and side projects.
How much does it cost to form an LLC?
Two costs: our service and the state filing fee. Our Starter plan is $49, Standard is $125, and Premium is $499. State filing fees range from about $35 to $520 and are passed through at cost — no markup. Premium files in the state’s expedited lane where one is offered, so the state fee can be a little higher on Premium in those states (e.g. California).
How long does it take to form an LLC?
It depends on the state. Many states process online filings in 1–7 business days; others take several weeks. We show the typical timeline for your state before you pay.
Can I form an LLC in any state?
Yes. We support all 50 states plus Washington D.C. Most US founders form in their home state; non-residents usually pick Wyoming, Delaware, or New Mexico.
Do I need a lawyer to form an LLC?
No. Forming an LLC is a standard state filing, and you can do it yourself or have a service like ours handle it. A lawyer is helpful for complex ownership structures or industry-specific licensing, but most founders never need one to get started.
Do I need a registered agent?
Yes — every state requires one to receive legal mail on the company’s behalf. Our Standard and Premium plans include registered agent service for the first year. After year one, Standard renews at $199/yr (RA only), and Premium renews at $499/yr (RA + Virtual Address + Mail). You can also use your own agent at any time.
Will you help me get an EIN?
Yes. EIN filing is included on Standard and Premium and we file directly with the IRS — no third-party fees. If you do not have a US Social Security Number or ITIN, add the "EIN without SSN" option at checkout for $100; we handle the IRS Form SS-4 fax/mail process, which takes about four weeks.
Do I need an operating agreement?
A handful of states require one, and banks often ask for it when you open a business account. We include a custom operating agreement on Standard and Premium so you have it on file from day one.
What happens after my LLC is formed?
You’ll get your Articles of Organization, EIN letter, and operating agreement in your dashboard. From there we track annual report deadlines, send renewal reminders, and keep your registered agent address current so the company stays in good standing.
